Raul was born on October 8, 1961, in Oaxaca, Mexico, to Agustin Magno Bautista and Gregoria Peralta Zárate. He was a hardworking, intelligent, and devoted man who believed that knowledge was meant to be shared. On October 16, 1981, Raul married the love of his life, Ludy Magno. Together, they shared nearly 45 years of love, devotion, and partnership, building a beautiful family and a lifetime of treasured memories. Raul was the proud father of three beloved children: Karla Atehortua, Romina Magno-Medina, and Raul Magno. As his family grew, he warmly welcomed their spouses—Jacob Medina, Alex Atehortua and Amy Magno—as his own. His greatest joy in life was being a grandpa to his cherished grandchildren: Leonardo, Emma, and Benjamin Medina; Daniela and Santino Magno; and Victoria, Bianca, and Isaac Atehortua. They were the light of his life, and nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with them, watching them grow, and creating memories they will carry forever. He found joy in teaching them and took pride in passing along even the smallest lessons. One of the many memories his family will forever cherish is how he loved teaching them the Spanish word “lupa,” meaning magnifying glass—a simple word that became a lasting symbol of his love for learning and sharing. Raul’s love extended beyond his family to his treasured furry grandchildren: Ranger, Penny, Maggie, Lolita, Bambie, and Miklo. He held a special place in his heart for Casper and Luca, the two dogs who first turned him into a true dog lover. Though they have since passed, they remained a cherished part of his story. Raul was also a gifted writer with a passion for journalism. After immigrating from Oaxaca, Mexico, to California, he founded and published a magazine called Foro Latino, which he proudly operated out of his garage. Through his writing, he sought to inform, inspire, and connect with the Latino community. In 2006, Raul and his family made Texas their home, where he continued building the life and legacy he so deeply valued. For more than 20 years, Raul worked as a cook, a profession he genuinely loved. His favorite meals to prepare were a delicious plate of pasta and a perfectly cooked steak. When it came time to dine out, he never turned down a trip to the Chinese buffet, Rosa’s Café, or Burger King. His signature order was always a Whopper with no cheese, no pickles, and no ketchup—a simple meal that became one of the many little things his family will always remember with a smile. Raul had an inquisitive mind and a passion for staying informed. He faithfully watched and read the news every day, and if there was one subject he could talk about for hours, it was politics. Whether you agreed with him or not, you could always count on a lively conversation and thoughtful perspective. Music also brought him joy, and among his favorites, “Hotel California” held a special place in his heart. Whenever it plays, those who loved him will be reminded of his presence, his conversations, and the many moments they shared together. Above all else, Raul will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a loyal friend, and a man whose wisdom, humor, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family he adored, the lessons he taught, and the countless memories that will forever be treasured. Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his love will continue to guide us. His memory will live on in every story shared, every family gathering, every song that reminds us of him, and every moment we hold our loved ones a little closer.
